2010

Goodbye, year.

I will miss your snow...
I will miss your spring...
I will miss all the joys
and every good thing that you bring.

I hope you have taught me well...
Through each experience and trial you sent my way.
I pray that I listened and learned
And made the most of each and every day.

If the next year to come
were just as the last
May I then take it upon myself
to grow as in years past.

The Smallest Gift

The small present under the tree
said it all
we are Yours and have no gift worthy of Your love
take us instead
and transform us into a true reflection of Your love.

A blessed Christmas to everyone~

Family Band - Year Eight

Business as usual.
Same music.
Same saxaphone.

Brittle pads rattling...
Warbling low C...
Bleeding gums after but a few minutes of play.

Christmas 2006
If we don't play...
Who will?

Family Band - Year Two

(Correction...Year One was actually Year Two, as I recall playing with John for Grandma Mille and Grandpa Richard a year or two earlier...but no pictures survive...so its kind of like a Star Wars prequal kind of thing)

The indulgence of the times brought with it a much larger band.
A percussion section...
A full range of horns (okay...2)
And a few cute faces to detract from the aging players.

Practice?  Yeah...once.
Passion?  You bet...anything for our beloved grandmother.
Heck...we even had real music this time.

Christmas 2000
Times sure have changed.
People come...people go.
Let's just remember the real reason we do this each year.

Family Band - Year One

I'll be the first to admit it:
I needed a shave...and a good hair-cut too.
Probably could have used a decent outfit as well.

Folding chairs, hand-scrawled music, and a couple of broken reeds were all we had.
Practice?  You bet.
Passion to play?  Not a doubt.

Christmas, 1992
What have we lost...a few years?  A few listeners?
Maybe the band...

Love you guys~

Lights

Sunday
Reece's Christmas Program at Rosemont Church
He truly stole the show with his "sleeping" act...

Friday
Another Nebraska sunset for the books...

Saturday
Watching Mike play with toy trains...

 "Playing" trains is exhausting work...

Cold, snowy evening in downtown Lincoln.
Absolutely beautiful.
Guess snow isn't so bad afterall...

Blind Willie McTell

Submitted my application to consolidate my student loans today.
With that, comes good news:
I may actually pay off my education before I retire!!!
God bless America and the American dream...

But who am I to complain?
No one can sing the blues quite like Blind Willie McTell...
