Roost v1.0

Last November, in an effort to keep both my sketching and design abilities fresh, I entered the Pioneer's Park Nature Center Artistic Birdhouse Competition in which the top 30 designs (selected from a small thumbnail sketch) would be chosen and thereby given the go-ahead to be built for auction this coming April.

My sketch:

Received notice late December that mine was chosen to be built (no commission...and on my own time :)  So I immediately scrambled to figure out how to make it work:

Late January...construction began (thanks to Anne for allowing me to takeover her basement):

 Fire-resistant: check!

Thanks to Dad for helping me with the mounting mechanism...and the use of his "test-pole" :)

Dropped it off today, and will now be on display (along with the other 29) around town until the auction in early April.

Last Words

I've been known to be quite criptic in the past...
so with a title such as this, I certainly take no exception.
But tonight I heard some words...
from one whom I certainly hope will not have been his last.

Above all it made me realize...
that just as my furnace begins to sputter its last bit of warm breath...
I too may have but just one night more...
before my life as well should pass.

I spend my days taking pictures now...
as if to capture what I love.
A building...a daughter...
a game...a shadow...
a source of everlasting light.

At first it was for fun...
A way to make each day count...
And it was then that I noticed
how quickly that each one did in fact come to pass.

Work all day...
Take a picture...
Come home...
Share with the world...nary a word was spoken.

What then would become of these pictures?
To whom and to what would be the worth?
A memory?
A legacy?

They are my eyes...what I see.
Even then, without my mind, they are nothing more than pixels
a lyric without a melody
dare I say...
If a picture tells a thousand words...
then perhaps I have spoken plenty...
and have said all that there was to say.

But did you listen?

If only people would look with their heart...

and listen to their eyes..
They would hear the song...
that plays through my heart.

...for it is there that you will find me.

Love you all~

2010

Goodbye, year.

I will miss your snow...
I will miss your spring...
I will miss all the joys
and every good thing that you bring.

I hope you have taught me well...
Through each experience and trial you sent my way.
I pray that I listened and learned
And made the most of each and every day.

If the next year to come
were just as the last
May I then take it upon myself
to grow as in years past.

The Smallest Gift

The small present under the tree
said it all
we are Yours and have no gift worthy of Your love
take us instead
and transform us into a true reflection of Your love.

A blessed Christmas to everyone~
